The game menu
You have probably already noticed it. The game menu on the top right. This menu gives your direct access to the most important areas of the game.
To sum things up:
-Empire: Shows all planets and your overall statistics.
-Space list: Shows all owned ships and has the ship construction menu.
-Messages: Shows all player and game messages.
-Galaxy: Opens galaxy view, displaying all solar systems and lanes.
-Technology: Lets you select your next research target.
-Design: Here you can design your own ships and orbitals.
-Diplomacy: In this place you can show and change relations.
-Switch game: Takes you to the games list.
-Options: Show your current player settings.
-Logout: Logs you out of Void of Space.
Design your future
Before you can take over the world, you will need a fleet. But before you have a fleet you will need to design your ships. This can be done at the design menu. There are various types of ships that you can choose from.
Designing your fleet
By clicking on the Design button you will get to the Design display. Here you can design all your space crafts. At the beginning they will be really small. But as you progress there will be larger ship types. There are various types of design that you can make.
The most important are:
-Colonizer: Claims empty planets as your own.
-Invader: Claims planets that are from enemies.
-Orbital: Can't leave orbit of planet (but are bigger/cheaper).
-Normal: Ships that can fly around and fight.
A ship model needs:
-Name
-Building material
-Hull
-Energy generators
Ships also need solar engines.
Building material
The building material determine both maximum size of ship (how many items the ship can hold) and the amount of hp. The better the material, the more space and hp the ship will have.
The hull
The hull determines what an object can do (see "Designing your fleet" above). But that is not all.
The hull also determines some modifiers:
-Health(%)
-Space/items(%)
-Damage(%)
-Absorption(%)
This makes some ships better in attacking and defending then others. In overall orbitals have the best space/cost ratio.
Adding items
At the left of the screen there is an add menu. When the pull down menu is used an table will show below it. This table displays information on the item. After selecting an item you can type the amount that you want of this item. After that the item(s) is added to the list in the middle. Both the content of the add menu and the item list are category dependant.
The icons
On the right of the design display are 6 icons. These 6 icons represent the 6 categories of items that can be put on a ship. The highlighted icon is the current category that is displayed.
The 6 categories are:
-Energy
-Shielding
-Counter measures
-Solar engines
-Lane engines
-Weapons
When the active category changes so does the add menu.
Energy
All ships need energy to power various components. The energy required depends on each component/item you put on your ships. There are various types of generators that generate various amounts of power.
Shielding
Its better to go well protected. There are 2 types of shielding that can be used to keep life expectancy high.
-Shielding in the form of extra health
-Shielding in the form of reduced damage.
Counter measures
Counter measures work much like shielding. But instead of reducing damage, they stop weapons completely. There is a catch though. There is no 100% chance that all weapons are stopped. Also 1 counter measure counters 1 shot of a weapon. So they aren't effective against fast shooting weapons.
Solar engines
These engines are used for cruising through solar systems. You get faster engines as the game progresses.
Lane engines
These babies are used when your ships want to go through solar lanes. They also determine the speed in which they travel through the lane.
Weapons
The weapons come in various type and sizes.
There are 3 important variables that give distinct weapons:
-Damage: Amount of damage per shot.
-Range: Amount of range in solar miles (or pixels on the map) the weapon can shoot at.
-Speed: Amount of shots the weapon shoots in 1 round.
The amount of shots a weapon can shoot is especially import for counter measures. This is because a counter measure can only stop a certain amount of shots.
It's also important to know that a weapon is only used once each turn (is not round)
Saving Design
When you are ready with tweaking the design, you can press the "Save Design" button. The game will check if it is a valid design. If problems where detected the menu will tell you so below the "Save Design" button. If the text says Design saved, you are ready to use the design at the construct menu (located in ship list).
Building your fleet
When your design is ready, it's time to build up you fleet. This can be done at the "Space list" screen. When entering this screen you will see a list of all your ships. If you are reading this manual and taking things step by step (like you should), you will see a colonize in the list. But we aren't interested in that at this moment. Notice the tabs on top of the list. Do it! You will see the tab "Construct". You will find the construction menu when you click on it. So click (on it).
On the left There are 3 things that need to be filled in.
1). The name of the ship.
2). The planet that will construct it.
3). The ship design (in this case the one you have just created).
Note: Planets that construct something in space, won't build on the surface.
The construction of the ship will commence when the build button has been pressed. The ship will now be displayed at the "Ship list" as a ship that is under construction. Now wait until completion and conquer the universe with it (probably won't happen with 1 ship though).
